Switch Your Existing System to Argus
You do not have to remain with the company that originally installed your system. If the equipment is suitable, Argus can inspect it and provide a proposal for a new maintenance and support arrangement.
A security system takeover does not automatically mean replacing everything. The survey establishes what can be retained, what needs remedial work and whether any equipment is obsolete, unsupported or unsuitable for the protection required.
Why customers switch:
- A maintenance or monitoring contract is approaching renewal
- Response times or service levels have fallen
- Persistent faults remain unresolved
- The original installer has ceased trading
- A property has been purchased with systems already installed
- Several providers need consolidating under one accountable company
Argus combines NSI Gold security expertise, BAFE-certified fire alarm capability and more than 35 years of fire and security experience.
When a System Takeover Makes Sense
A takeover is most useful when the existing equipment still has value but the current service arrangement no longer meets your needs.
| Your situation | What Argus assesses | Possible outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Contract approaching renewal | System condition, current scope and future requirements | A new maintenance and support proposal |
| Poor service or unresolved faults | Fault history, equipment and likely remedial work | Repair, upgrade or staged replacement plan |
| Inherited system | What is installed, how it operates and whether it remains suitable | Recommissioning, user handover and ongoing maintenance |
| Original installer unavailable | Engineering access, documentation, compatibility and supportability | Takeover where possible or a clear upgrade recommendation |
| Several suppliers across one site | Fire, CCTV, intruder and access-control responsibilities | Suitable systems consolidated with one provider |
| Multiple locations | System types, site priorities and required response | Phased multi-site takeover and maintenance plan |
Important: a new Argus agreement does not automatically cancel your current contract. Check notice periods, equipment ownership, monitoring terms and termination requirements with the existing provider.
What Does a Fire or Security System Takeover Mean?
A takeover means Argus becomes responsible for maintaining and supporting a suitable existing system under a new agreement, even though another company originally designed or installed it.
Before accepting responsibility, we need to understand the equipment, its condition and the level of protection or response expected. The survey may identify repairs, programming, documentation gaps or upgrades needed before ongoing maintenance can begin.
You receive a clear explanation of:
- What equipment may be retained
- Outstanding faults or risks
- Any remedial work required
- Monitoring or signalling changes
- Available maintenance and call-out options
Proprietary, obsolete, damaged or unsupported systems may need alteration or replacement before Argus can maintain them responsibly.
Systems Argus May Be Able to Take Over
Suitability depends on the equipment, its condition, available records, engineering access and the standard or response required.
- Fire alarms: service history, faults, system records, maintenance requirements and necessary upgrades.
- Intruder alarms: detectors, control equipment, signalling, user operation and monitoring arrangements.
- CCTV: camera views, image quality, recording, storage, remote access and recorder condition.
- Access control: controllers, readers, doors, credentials, licences and administrative access.
Other fire and security systems can be discussed during the initial enquiry. A survey is the point at which we confirm what can be supported.

Fire Alarm Contract Takeovers
Security System Takeovers
Argus can propose a new fire alarm maintenance agreement after assessing the existing system. We review the equipment, service history, documentation, outstanding faults and the maintenance requirements for the premises.
A fire alarm system takeover and maintenance proposal may include:
- Initial condition and documentation review
- Identification of faults or remedial work
- Required upgrades or replacement of unsupported equipment
- Planned servicing and fault support
- Monitoring arrangements where applicable
For CCTV, intruder alarms and access control, the takeover survey focuses on whether Argus can access, maintain and support the existing equipment.
We consider:
- Manufacturer, model, age and visible condition
- Engineering codes, software and licences
- Outstanding faults or false alarms
- Coverage, detection and camera positioning
- Power supplies, batteries and communications
- Recording, signalling and monitoring connections
Where equipment cannot be accepted unchanged, we will explain the repair, upgrade or replacement options rather than leaving the scope unclear.
How the Takeover Process Works
- Tell us what is installed: share the system types, locations, current provider and any known faults.
- Review your current arrangement: check notice periods, ownership, monitoring terms and available service information.
- On-site survey: an Argus surveyor inspects the equipment and considers its suitability for takeover.
- Clear proposal: we show what can be retained, what work is needed and the maintenance, monitoring and call-out options.
- Planned transfer: agreed remedial work and compatible monitoring changes are coordinated to reduce avoidable disruption.
- Ongoing support: the system moves onto the agreed Argus service arrangement.
If monitoring is required, we review the signalling equipment, account information and response needed. Maintained customers can also discuss 24-hour call-out support.

System Takeover Frequently Asked Questions
Can Argus take over any fire or security system?
Not automatically. The equipment must first be assessed for condition, compatibility, engineering access and the protection or response required. Some systems can be accepted as they are; others need repairs, upgrades or replacement.
Will all my existing equipment need replacing?
Not necessarily. The survey identifies what remains serviceable, what needs remedial work and which components are obsolete, unsupported or unsuitable. Avoiding unnecessary replacement is one reason to survey first.
What if I do not have the installer code or system documents?
Tell us what information is available. Missing engineering access, software licences or documentation can affect the options, but the survey will establish what can reasonably be supported.
Can Argus take over a fire alarm service contract?
Argus can propose a new fire alarm maintenance agreement after assessing the system. You remain responsible for checking notice periods, termination requirements and equipment ownership under your current contract.
Can existing alarm monitoring be transferred?
Often there are options, but the signalling equipment, account information, response requirements and system access must be reviewed. We explain any necessary changes before a transfer is agreed.
Can you consolidate several systems or sites?
Yes, subject to survey and compatibility. Argus can discuss a phased approach for organisations that want to bring multiple sites or different fire and security disciplines under one support arrangement.
Do you take over domestic systems as well as commercial systems?
Yes. Takeovers are available for suitable systems in homes and commercial premises. The survey, contract and support options reflect the property and equipment involved.
